Despite securing an NFL playoff spot, the Dallas Cowboys may play their starters against the Washington Redskins after participating in a regular practice routine.

It would take a serious stroke of luck for the Dallas Cowboys to emerge from Week 17 with the NFC’s top overall seed as they would need either the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks to lose or the the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers to tie.

Chances are neither of those scenarios are going to happen though mathematically it’s still possible and it appears the Dallas Cowboys are going to play for the bye week despite the small odds.

Head coach Jason Garrett has played his starters throughout practice this week and hasn’t given the backups any additional run according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter who reports the starters are going through their regular routines.

Some will frown upon the decision of Jason Garrett and/or Jerry Jones as they’d like to see players dealing with fatigue and injury like DeMarco Murray and Tony Romo receive some rest. Of course, on the flip side of such an argument is the idea of resting those players and possibly messing up their rhythm or all but giving up on trying to secure a top seed.

There’s really no wrong answer either way as its just a matter of opinion, but there will be plenty of upset Dallas Cowboys fans if a star player is to get hurt because of playing extended minutes or if they were to miss out on the top seed because of not playing.

Simply put, the Dallas Cowboys are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. They just have to hope luck is on their side and they can pull players early if need be.

They’ll finish up their regular season against the struggling Washington Redskins.
