The San Francisco 49ers are considering Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as a candidate to be their next head coach.

More from Cleveland Browns

Kyle Shanahan did an excellent job as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns this past season, and is now receiving interest from the San Francisco 49ers as they search for a new head coach.

Rumors swirling around just a couple weeks ago were that the 49ers wanted to find a young coach with an offensive mind to replace Jim Harbaugh. That is exactly the description of Shanahan, and it would make sense for both sides. Shanahan doesn’t have any head coaching experience himself in the NFL, but his father, Mike, is one of the best coaches that the NFL has had in recent history.

Simply being able to learn from his dad would be a valuable experience from Shanahan, and it would make the hire even more intriguing.

It would certainly be an intriguing hire, especially with other candidates out there like Josh McDaniels and Adam Gase. Those names are the big ones, while Shanahan is taking a back seat due to working with the Browns at this point in time. He didn’t have too much to work with in Cleveland this past year, but he found ways to put points on the board and move the football.

San Francisco has plenty of options to choose from, but it appears that they are very interested in Shanahan at this point in time. Shanahan would likely be more than happy to move out to San Francisco and take over that team rather than staying with the Browns that could be on a sinking ship with Johnny Manziel. Don’t be surprised to hear more rumors about Shanahan heading to the 49ers as the offseason continues coming closer.
