DICK’s Sporting Goods has an NFL Jersey Report that tracks the jersey sales of each players jersey from every store. Luck ended up being the Colts’ leader in jersey sales for the 2014 season, and was also the second top selling jersey in the entire NFL.
There is no question that Luck is moving his way towards being an elite quarterback, and he may very well have gotten to that point this year. He broke Manning’s Colts’ franchise record for single-season passing yardage, and led the Colts to an 11-5 record. It isn’t too surprising to see fans respond and buy one of the best up-and-coming quarterbacks in the league’s jersey, and his sales will only continue to go up as he continues to get better.
The only player above Luck this season in jersey sales was Manning, which says a lot about Luck who is in just his third season.
Moving forward, Luck is going to be considered a fringe elite quarterback. These jersey sale numbers prove that fans are buying his jersey like he is already elite, and the Colts aren’t a very big market either. Fans from across the United States are taking notice of Luck and loving his play, which is an impressive thing for a young quarterback.
Luck has been considered the next Manning ever since he was drafted by the Colts, and being right behind him in jersey sales is just another comparison that can be made.
