Coming into the 2014 season, the San Francisco 49ers were participants in the past four NFC Championship games. Unfortunately for those in the Bay Area, they were only able to advance to the Super Bowl once and lost in heart breaking fashion, but when a team achieves such impressive success it’s likely the quarterback who is going to see the biggest jersey sales.
That held true to form during the 2014 campaign as signal caller Colin Kaepernick lead the San Francisco 49ers in jersey sales this season, this according to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report.
Jersey sales for Kaepernick started out strong though as the 49ers began to hit a mid-season swoon, so did Kaepernick’s jersey sale numbers. Despite that, Colin Kaepernick remained one of the best selling jerseys in the NFL this season ranking as the 12th best selling jersey in the league.
Only eight quarterbacks sold more jerseys than Colin Kaepernick this season, including Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Johnny Manziel, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning and Cam Newton.
Colin Kaepernick also had one of the most well rounded jersey sales in the league as 38 percent of his sales were men jerseys while 43 percent were sold in youth sizes. Women’s jerseys rounded out the remaining 19 percent.
Going against the San Francisco 49ers quarterback was the fact he was surrounded by so many additional good players like Patrick Willis, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin who all did well in selling their jersey though it was still Kaepernick who came out on top.
Understandably a significant amount of Colin Kaepernick’s jersey sales came from the San Francisco area but Southern California and New York also helped spike the sale numbers. Both Texas and Illinois shockingly also sold their fair share of Kapernick jerseys in addition with Reno, Nevada where the quarterback played college football for the Wolfpack.
