The Atlanta Falcons finished off another losing season this year in blowout loss fashion, and Mike Smith’s job is likely to be taken from him before the morning turns into afternoon.
Mike Smith had a Super Bowl caliber roster and the talent to make it all work — except it never did. Despite having talent like Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White and at one time Tony Gonzalez, the Falcons finished off their second straight losing season on Sunday afternoon and missed the playoffs in consecutive years.

Arthur Blank is not a man who likes to sit around and watch his team squander opportunity and this is something that has led to what many believe will be the end of the Mike Smith era in Atlanta.
While no decision has been made public as of yet, the expectation is that Arthur Blank will fire Mike Smith before the afternoon rolls around, which is hardly a surprising move.
“Falcons owner Arthur Blank is expected to make an announcement in late morning,” said NFL Network reporter Albert Breer. “Expectation is head coach Mike Smith will be let go.”
It’s an embarrassing end to such a promising era for the Falcons, but they have pieces in place to pick up and go with a new head coach who is hopefully more capable of making all the Pro Bowl pieces on the roster work better than Mike Smith was able to.
