New York Jets owner Woody Johnson appears to have given general Mmanager John Idzik his walking papers. He will join head coach Rex Ryan in the NFL‘s unemployed ranks as the organization appears to be cleaning house this Monday morning.
The move comes after a dismal 4-12 campaign that will see the Jets land the 6th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Along with Ryan, Idzik was unable to put together any string of winning football this season, and as a result, the team won just half as many games as 2013, and finished in the cellar of the AFC East. The direction the team will take next season remains to be seen, however, a makeover on all sides of the ball is likely in order.
Idzik, who was under fire from fans virtually all season, had been in the role of GM for the Jets since last year. Previously, he had served as the vice president of football administration for the Seattle Seahawks from 2007-2012. Idzik, who has been involved with the league since 1993, was credited with a string of questionable front office decisions, including the now unpopular selection of starting QB Geno Smith with the team’s second round pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.
