Rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins leads the Buffalo Bills in jersey sales in his first season in the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills by all means had a tremendous 2014 season, finishing with a 9-7 record and in second place in the AFC East. Unfortunately the wild card race was too competitive and kept them out of the playoffs, but it is nice to see the Bills winning games again.

That didn’t necessarily translate to jersey sales though, the Bills finished 17th amongst all NFL teams in terms of jersey sales. What might be surprising is the star power of rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who the Bills traded up to draft in 2014.

According to the Jersey Report, which tracks the sales of NFL jerseys at DICK’s Sporting Goods stores around the nation and online, Watkins sold more jerseys than any of his teammates in his first season.

He even out sold established veteran and stars like Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Bills running back Fred Jackson was the highest selling player on the Bills coming in 36th, just a few spots behind Watkins. Jackson is a veteran player and a fan favorite so that isn’t necessarily all that surprising.

The next highest selling Bills player was quarterback E.J. Manuel at 74th in the league, who didn’t play most of the season with Kyle Orton taking over and leading the team. Still it is surprising that he is the third highest selling player on the team.

Running back sensation C.J. Spiller came in fourth on the team and 81st in the league, followed by Mario Williams at No. 88.

All in all, that gives the Bills five players in the top 100, which isn’t bad considering a team like the Atlanta Falcons only had three players or the Dallas Cowboys only had four.
