While covering the NCAA football playoff, the folks over at Fox Sports just placed the Florida Gators in the Rose Bowl against the Oregon Ducks, instead of the Florida State Seminoles. Although probably just a matter of a simple mishap, the mistake is nevertheless baffling and hilarious.

Could anyone imagine this match up? The Gators just suffered through another mediocre season, one of many since two time BCS title winning head coach Urban Meyer stepped down from the helm of the program. The team went 6-5, including a 4-4 run within SEC play this year. Will Muschamp resigned, and the team will be led by interim head coach D.J. Durkin in the team’s bowl game against ECU. Durkin served previously as Muschamp’s defensive coordinator.

That would be one heck of an audition for other programs, should Durkin somehow topple current Heisman Trophy Award winner Marcus Mariota and the high powered offense of the Ducks. And maybe next season the undefeated Seminoles will actually make the college football playoffs. Guess their tendency to keep things close and tight in almost every game down the final stretch of the season came back to haunt them. You know there is a bias against you when a school barely over .500 gets the playoff nod over a 13-0 squad. Suddenly, the players and coaches at TCU and Baylor probably do not feel so bad.
