According to reports, both Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden and QB Robert Griffin III will return to the team in 2015.
This ill-fated NFL marriage between the Washington Redskins’s Jay Gruden and QB Robert Griffin III will continue on, at least for another season. Whether RG3 will start again for the team next year remains unclear. Before he went down with a season ending injury, QB Colt McCoy had taken over the reins under center.

McCoy, however, is a free agent. Should he not return, that would leave the position open to a competition between Kirk Cousins and RG3. Gruden has commented on the matter recently, saying the following.
“I’d like to pick one as soon as I could so we could really try to work and grind on him and develop him, but until that position is earned, you have to have a competition. And I anticipate us having a competition at a lot of spots and quarterback is no different next year.”
Surprisingly, Gruden defended the embattled No. 2 overall draft pick from 2012. “Moving forward, I think he’s got the arm talent to be a good quarterback, obviously some issues in the pocket have to be worked with. Anticipation, accuracy, there’s a lot of things that can be improved on, but that’s every quarterback in the NFL will have to improve on every part of their game from one season to the next and he’s no different,” said the first year head coach.
What this seems to prove is that team owner Dan Snyder is not yet willing to part ways with either man, even after suffering through a bitter 4-12 campaign, which saw the franchise play rather uninspiring football all year round. Historically, we have seen Snyder put his quarterback over his coaching staff, so the decision to keep Gruden around is somewhat surprising, even after only one season under the coaching helm.
