Sanders is no stranger to news outlets as he was the team official who denied having seen tape of former Ravens running back Ray Rice striking his then-fiancee Janay Palmer. Sanders claimed to have requested the tape from the casino in which the incident took place, but that he was rebuffed.
Now it appears Sanders will have his own evidence to worry about amid these charges. Sanders’ attorney denied the charges, the details of which are not yet available, calling them ‘totally fabricated’.
“It does a disservice to real victims when people make things up like this,” attorney Andrew Alperstein told the Sun. “People like [Sanders] are susceptible to made-up allegations. It puts you in a vulnerable position.”
Sanders had been charged with a misdemeanor in 2004 when his gun discharged during a University of Maryland basketball game that he attended with Ravens owner Steve Biscotti.
Sanders has been assigned a February 9 court date, but has not been arrested for his alleged crimes.
The Baltimore Ravens will play divisional rival Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on Saturday night in AFC wild card action.
