Sam Bradford Will Face Competition For Rams Starting Job

Sam Bradford’s standing as the starting quarterback for the St. Louis Rams is no longer a given. He will have to win the job prior to the start of the 2015 NFL regular season.

Head coach Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams are sick of losing. They have shown they have the pieces (when put together) to topple some of the league’s better squads, as evidenced by Week 11 of the 2014 NFL season, where the team bested Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos 22-7. Overall, their defense is a mid-tier bunch in terms of league wide averages, but the team’s offense has clearly been struggling, greatly in part, due to starting quarterback Sam Bradford’s chronic injuries.

Just 18-30 as a starter in the league, Bradford was taken with the first overall pick of the 2010 NFL draft. While healthy, he has shown a decent amount of potential. Unfortunately, those instances of clean bills of health have been few and far between since his time in the NFL. This past season, Bradford went down with an ACL injury in Week 3 of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns. Shaun Hill and Austin Davis would spend the rest of the year filling in under center.

Now it would appear that the 2008 Heisman Trophy Award winner has his work cut out for him. His head coach has stated that he will not be guaranteed the starting spot at QB heading into next year and will face some competition for the job. Fisher spoke with the St. Louis Post Dispatch and had the following to say. “There’s going to be competition at the quarterback position, there’s no doubt. With somebody that’s not in the building right now. We’re hopeful for that.”
