Freshman running back Dalvin Cook might have been Florida State’s best player in the first half of the Rose Bowl. The second half has not been so great.

Oregon has opened a 39-20 lead over Florida State in the Rose Bowl, with Seminoles freshman running back Dalvin Cook proving generous.

Cook has two fumbles in the third quarter and the Ducks turned both of them into touchdowns as they look like they could be pulling away from the defending national champions.

On Florida State’s first possession of the second half, Cook picked up 10 yards before Derrick Malone of Oregon stripped the ball and recovered it at the Ducks’ 31-yard line.

Six plays later, Royce Freeman was in the end zone and Oregon led 25-13.

The teams traded TD, making it a 32-20 game, and Florida State got the ball back.

Jameis Winston found Cook for an apparent first downb on third-and-5, until this:

Johnny Ragin III poked the ball free and Oregon’s Reggie Daniels pounced on it. Two plays later, Darren Carrington completed a 30-yard pass play from Marcus Mariota, giving Oregon 14 points off Cook’s two miscues.

Cook, a freshman from Miami, came into the Rose Bowl with 905 rushing yards and eight touchdowns and has topped the 1,000-yard mark with 103 yards on 15 carries against Oregon.

But what might be remembered most are the two fumbles that may have sealed Florida State’s fate and ended its 29-game winning streak.
