The Buffalo Bills suddenly found themselves in need of a head coach after Doug Marrone opted out of his contract earlier this week and former Bills quarterback, Frank Reich will interview for the position on Sunday.

Former Bills quarterback Frank Reich will interview for the vacant head coaching job, according to ESPN’s Dan Fraziano who tweeted the former backup to Jim Kelly will interview for the job left vacant by Doug Marrone on Sunday.
Reich was drafted in the third round of the 1985 draft and played for the Bills until 1994. He is most famous for orchestrating the NFL’s largest comeback in a 1993 wild card playoff game against the Houston Oilers when he led the Bills out of a 35-3 deficit to a 41-38 overtime win.
Bills will interview Chargers OC Frank Reich in San Diego on Sunday for their vacant HC position.

After retiring from the NFL after the 1998 season, Reich would return to the NFL a decade later in 2008 as an offensive coaching assistant on Tony Dungy’s staff with the Indianapolis Colts. A year later he was promoted to be Peyton Manning’s quarterbacks coach from 2009-2010 and later the wide receivers coach in 2011.
Reich was then hired by the Arizona Cardinals as the wide receivers coach under Ken Whisenhunt and would follow him to the San Diego Chargers in 2013 after Whisenhunt and his staff were fired. Once Whisenhunt was hired as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans in 2013 he was promoted to be the Chargers offensive coordinator. He is largely responsible for Philip Rivers having a mid-career renaissance during Reich’s time in San Diego.
However, Reich has zero head coaching experience, but that may not necessarily be a deterrent to landing the job in Buffalo because of his success working with quarterbacks. The Bills lost Kyle Orton to retirement after he replaced former first round pick, E.J. Manuel and led the team to a 9-7 record.
Reich’s ability to sell the front office and ownership on his ability to develop Manuel is likely the most important part of his interview. The Bills do not have a first round pick in the 2015 draft after trading it to move up to select Sammy Watkins in the 2014 draft, so they may be forced to go with Manuel for one more season to see if they can tap into the potential they saw in him when they made him the only quarterback taken in the first round of the 2013 draft.
