Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston isn’t focused on the 2015 NFL Draft at all, or at least he says.

The Florida State Seminoles suffered their first loss since the 2012 season against the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl on Thursday night. It is also the first loss of Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston’s career, the redshirt sophomore who won the Heisman Trophy in 2013.

The general assumption is that Winston is leaving Florida State to head towards the NFL draft, but he tried to avoid answering questions about it after the game.

“I’m not focused on that at all,” said Winston, via NFL.com. “I’m looking forward to next season and playing baseball. I’m just trying to get better every day.”

Of course there are lots of benefits for Winston if he elected to go to the NFL. It would bring a huge pay day that could benefit himself and his family. The question is whether or not he is mature enough and ready of if he’d have a lackluster and seemingly unfocused rookie season like his Heisman predecessor Johnny Manziel.

He is already considered a top draft prospect as well, there is no where that stock can go but down. Staying in college puts himself at risk of injury as well, something that could damage his earning potential at the next level.

On the other hand there are plenty of reasons for Winston to stay as well, though possibly not as convincing as the argument to leave. He could pursue winning another Heisman Trophy, joining Archie Griffin who is currently the only player to win the award more than once. He could pursue another National Championship as well and cement his legacy as one of college football’s greatest quarterbacks.

If Winston is focused on baseball though, it could make him leaving seem unlikely. A lot of players headed towards the draft take the semester off from school to focus on training and the combine.

Winston of course doesn’t fall in the category of a player who needs to improve his draft stock, but he is possibly jockeying against Marcus Mariota for the No. 1 pick and he has the combine and his pro day to worry about.

It will be an interesting decision, and Seminoles fans are certainly interested in what he will do but the general consensus has to be that he is leaving.
