After a second 10-win season with the Eagles, Chip Kelly has been given more authority and will not oversee the player personnel department and oversee all scouts, according to NFL media insider Ian Rapoport and later confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Kelly wins in what was a bit of a power struggle and will essentially run the NFL draft and have control over player personnel. He will oversee the hiring of a new personnel executive with Howie Roseman elevated to Executive Vice President of Football Operations where he will handle contract negotiations, salary cap management and business-related matters.
The Eagles fired Tom Gamble, VP of player personnel earlier this week in a sign that Kelly was going to win this power struggle. Eagles chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Lurie commented on the structural change, via Schefter.
“We are a good football team and we believe these steps will help make us a great team,” said Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. “That step – from good to great – is the most difficult one for any organization to make. To do that, sometimes you have to step back and really look hard at where you are today and what you want to become.”
Kelly now will have his footprint on the makeup of this roster just as he did when he was the head coach of the Oregon Ducks and was a perennial contender for the national championship.
“I am very confident about where we are headed as a team and as an organization. I look forward to continue working with Jeffrey and Howie as well as the personnel department,” said Kelly.
This will squash the rumors that popped up in recent days about Kelly being upset or possibly looking to leave Philadelphia with the San Francisco 49ers rumored to be a potential destination in the wake of Jim Harbaugh leaving for the job at Michigan.
“This is not a one-man operation,” added Kelly. “It will truly take a team effort to acquire and develop the best football players and then put the best team on the field each week. It will take all of us working together.
