The Under Armour All-American Game is underway where a number of elite recruits are committing to their college of choice, including Tim Settle who committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Virginia Tech landed the commitment from defensive tackle Tim Settle on Friday afternoon during the Under Armour All-American Game, giving the Hokies a premier lineman while keeping a local player in the state.

Settle (Manassas, VA Stonewall Jackson) is a significant get for Frank Beamer and staff, including primary recruiter Torrian Gray and secondary recruiter Charley Wiles to keep the 6-3, 300-pound run stuffer close to home after losing in-state recruits like Josh Sweat and Da’Shawn Hand.

Settle is the No. 78 recruit in the nation regardless of position, the No. 11 defensive tackle and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Virginia Tech has made the defensive line a priority in recruiting this class and landing Settle instantly made him the highest ranked of the 22 commits.

Virginia Tech now has seven defensive linemen in the fold for the 2015 class, including four defensive tackles with Settle headlining the class that also includes junior college recruit, Yosuah Nijman from Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, VA. Nijman is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the JUCO ranks and the No. 2 ranked player overall in junior college.

Settle took his official visit to Blacksburg on Sept. 27 before taking officials to Oklahoma State, USC, Washington State and Louisville. He also took an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on Oct. 23 in a sign that the Hokie were the team to beat despite the fact he would have three more officials later in the process.

Virginia Tech didn’t have the type of season they are accustomed to or what they expect, finishing with a 7-6 record after winning the Military Bowl, but the defense under Bud Foster remained one of the best in the ACC and the nation.

The Hokies had the nation’s No. 22 total defense and adding a player the caliber of Settle to the middle of the defensive line should be a welcome addition and ensure that Foster has a premier talent to develop and insert into his defense for the next three-four years.
