Stefon Diggs up and down career at Maryland has come to a close according to the Baltimore Sun’s Matt Zenitz who reports the junior wide receiver is foregoing his final year of college eligibility and is declaring for the 2015 NFL draft.

Diggs led the Terps with 62 receptions for 792 yards and five touchdowns despite missing three games, some as a result of a suspension for his actions prior to the Penn State game and some due to injury.
The 6-0, 190-pound Diggs was a recruiting coup for Maryland as a former consensus five-star recruit out of Olney, MD and Good Counsel high school. He was the nation’s No. 8 recruit overall and the No. 2 receiver recruit in the class of 2012, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
By comparison, Alabama wide receiver and Biletnikoff Award winner, Amari Cooper, was the No. 7 receiver in his class. Diggs came to Maryland with all the hype and potential in the world, but never realized those lofty expectations in College Park.
His freshman season was his finest with 54 receptions for a career-high 848 yards and career-high six touchdowns. He also averaged 28.5 yards per kick return and took two kicks back for scores. However, his sophomore season was cut short by a broken leg and limited to seven games and 34 catches for 587 yards and three touchdowns.
Diggs set a career-high in receptions as a junior but his yards per catch was a career-low 12.8 and his time at Maryland was assumed to be coming to an end after his junior year to avoid another injury and because he just seemed to be biding his time until he could leave for the draft and begin his pro career.
Scouts Inc ranks Diggs as their 15th best wide receiver and gave him an overall rank of 78, so that would put him in line to be drafted in the bottom half of the third round.
Naturally, his performance at the NFL combine in February and subsequent pro day and interviews with pro teams can move him up but it can also move him down if he doesn’t ace the interviews and workouts.
