For nearly 30 years, Nike has been the athletic outfitter for the Miami Hurricanes, but that will be changing shortly. According to a report from the Palm Beach Post, the school will officially be making the switch from Nike and will now be partnered up with Adidas for the near future.
The deal is expected to be announced later this week.
Miami athletics has been affiliated with Nike for the last 27 years, and in that time they were provided with some of the more memorable uniforms in college football. Last month, however, the school did not renew its deal with Nike, beginning the speculation as to who the school would partner up with next. Obviously, at this point, the only two choices for a replacement were Adidas or Under Armour. Apparently, Adidas won the bidding.
The ending of the relationship between Nike and Miami is notable, if only for the fact that the Hurricanes were the first school to sign a deal with a retailer that covered all sports back in 1987, right when Miami was in their heyday as the kings of college football. Throughout the years, Nike has pumped out some pretty nice uniforms for the team, including the smoke uniforms they debuted last season.
Now, though, the designing aspect will be up to the folks at Adidas, who in the public’s eye, has a pretty shaky track record as of late.
