The Detroit Lions have made re-signing defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh their top priority this offseason.

Even two days after the game, the Detroit Lions have yet to calm down following their dramatic loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys. Whether the missed pass interference call, missed unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, or anything else is bothering them, they still aren’t happy with the way that the game went down.

While the loss to the Cowboys has been very upsetting for the Lions, they know that there are things that need to be done this offseason in order to ensure that they’ll be back in the playoffs. One of those things is re-signing star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Suh is one of the best tackles in the NFL, but unfortunately is also one of the dirtiest players that the league has ever seen as well, in the minds of some.

Suh was a huge part of a Lions defense that ranked first against the run and 13th against the pass. Without him in the middle, their run defense wouldn’t have been nearly as effective.

Jim Caldwell made it clear that the Lions want to bring Suh back in free agency, and that is their top priority at this point in time.

“That will continue to be one of our highest priorities,” Caldwell said. “That’s going to be addressed constantly here until we come to some conclusion.”

In all 16 games this season with the Lions, Suh racked up 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks. There was a lot of heat coming down on Suh after he stepped on Aaron Rodgers’ leg during their Week 17 loss, but the NFL chose to overturn his suspension on appeal and let him play in the playoffs.

At 28 years of age, this is likely the last contract that Suh will sign in which he will play in his prime. The Lions know that they need him on their defense to be as dangerous as they were this season, but they are going to have plenty of competition. Suh is going to command a very nice contract, and the Lions may not have the type of money that another team will offer.

Detroit is going to do whatever they can to sign him, but it will be an entertaining situation to keep an eye on in open free agency.
