Toomer’s Oaks will be making a return rather soon.

There are many traditions within college football. One of them is Auburn University and their beloved Toomer’s Oaks, which have been missing since Alabama fan Harvey Updyke Jr. poisoned the prized trees after the 2010 Iron Bowl. On February 14th, two new Oaks will be planted in Toomer’s corner so the famous tradition of throwing toilet paper on the Oaks after wins can continue.

Auburn’s director communications and media relations, Mike Cardy, said that it’s only a matter of time before the trees are planted. Preparation at Toomer’s Corner and the South Carolina farm where the trees will be coming from are underway.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had trees on the corner,” Clardy said. “Those trees meant a lot to a lot of people in the Auburn Family so it’s going to be an exciting day as we turn the page and look more towards the future.”

Those trees are indeed important to the Auburn Family. Since the old, poisoned Oaks were removed, fans have installed wire so the tradition of throwing toilet paper could continue. However, this will be taken down when they renovate the traffic light arm at the intersection near Toomer’s corner.

It’s a very smart move for Auburn to find and plant new Oaks. The tradition means a lot to Auburn football fans and it hasn’t been the same since the Oaks were removed. Auburn’s Oak trees are one of the well-known sports traditions around the country and there should be a big celebration when the news trees are planted.

Auburn fans should be excited for the football team’s first game, and when they win their first game of the 2015 season their should be a mass crowd decorating the trees with toilet paper. The future is bright for not only Auburn football, but also the fans because of these new trees being planted. It’s been a major hole missing from the college program and the community. On game days fans walk by the team and look forward to taking part in turning those trees into a mass of toilet paper that sticks out along the road.

Mark the date in your calendar Auburn football fans. Go celebrate when Toomer’s corner is once again filled with massive Oak trees next to the Acorn trees that have stood strong for many years themselves. For non-Auburn fans and SEC rivals, they should cherish and respect that one of the most cherished college football tradition is back in action.
