The Buffalo Bills could be nearing the end of their coaching search by bringing in former New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan for a second interview on Saturday night in Florida.

Rex Ryan may have found a new head coaching gig and he didn’t need to look too far to find it as the Buffalo Bills are bringing in the former Jets head coach for a second interview, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ryan was fired after a 4-12 season, his sixth with the Jets, and a 46-60 overall record. He took the Jets to the AFC Championship game the first two years in New York, but has zero winning seasons since and a 12-20 record over the last two seasons.

Oddly enough, the Bills and Jets could have traded head coaches as Doug Marrone was under consideration for the Jets job after he opted out of his Bills deal. However, that was squashed in recent days with Jets owner Woody Johnson not enamored with the former Jets assistant.

Should the Bills move forward with Ryan and name him the head coach it is possible he could be naming another head coach who was fired at the same time as Ryan and name former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman as his offensive coordinator, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

That would be an interesting clash of personalities, but whoever is ultimately named the team’s head coach has to solve the quarterback quandary in Buffalo where Kyle Orton retired after a fine effort as the team’s starter after the benching of E.J. Manuel.

The former first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft has yet to blossom in Buffalo and at this point would be the top option on the team’s depth chart barring any personnel additions. Ryan essentially lost his job with the Jets because he and his staff could not develop Mark Sanchez after he plateaued in his third year and Geno Smith was a disaster the next two years.

Would Ryan and Trestman excite Bills fans who went 9-7 but missed the playoffs again to extend the NFL’s longest playoff drought to 15 years.
