How great were Big Ten running backs this year?
Melvin Gordon was a Heisman finalist who finished with the second most rushing yards in a season, Indiana’s Tevin Coleman topped 2,000 yards, and David Cobb and Jeremy Langford were among the best in the country.
But only Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott is still playing as he showed off his combination of speed and power on this 33-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7 in the first quarter.
Elliott showed how important he is to the Buckeyes with 230 yards and two touchdowns in the Sugar Bowl win against Alabama to get to the title game and has rushed for 1,632 yards and 14 touchdowns entering tonight’s title affair.
Only a sophomore, Elliott will return to Ohio State next year as the Buckeyes could be the preseason No. 1 team in the country with he and a trio of talented quarterbacks vying for the starting job in Columbus next year.
