Reportedly 24 schools are interested in Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson.

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson could be transferring from Notre Dame before the start of next football season. According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, there are 24 schools who have show interest in Golson.

McMurphy didn’t get into which specific teams are interested in Golson, but on twitter, McMurphy confirmed six of the 24 schools are SEC schools.

Right now, Golson is on track to graduate and would be eligible to play next season if he chose to transfer after redshirting in 2011, using the NCAA’s graduate transfer rule, according to SI.com

There was speculation last week that Golson had contacted LSU and was looking into possibly becoming a Tiger next season. When that report broke, Golson tweeted out this reminder to the fans and media:

Who knows what to make of this news from McMurphy?

Of course, there are teams interested in Golson. Two years ago, Golson led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the national championship game.

This season, Golson threw for 3,445 yards, 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions. After starting the season 6-0, Notre Dame lost four of their last five games. Head coach Brian Kelly benched Golson for the last regular season game against USC and Golson didn’t even start Notre Dame’s bowl game, but he did make an appearance off the bench.

If Golson was looking for a reason to transfer, all of the reasons are right there.

What does Golson owe Notre Dame anyway? Likely, the Irish will not contend for the national championship next season. If Golson isn’t even a lock to be the starting quarterback, and it’s way too early to know that yet, he might as well take his talents to a team who actually wants him.

Golson is a dual-threat quarterback and is a matchup nightmare for 95 percent of the defenses around the country. If Golson joins a team with playmakers at the skill positions and a solid defense, there’s no doubt he can bring any team in the country a national championship. He’s definitely good enough.
