Junior wide receiver Breshad Perriman of UCF will enter the NFL Draft, telling his coaches on Sunday, according to his father.

Breshad Perriman made a big catch at a big time in a big game, grabbing a 51-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to lift the UCF Knights to a 32-30 win over East Carolina on Dec. 4, securing a share of the American Athletic Conference title.

Perriman, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound junior, will take his chances at the next level, informing his coaches on Sunday that he was going to declare for the NFL Draft, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Perriman’s father was gracious to the city and the school.

“I want to thank the city of Orlando for embracing my son and taking care of him,” Brett Perriman said. “This is a place he wants to make his home in the near future. I want to thank the University of Central Florida, it’s a top-notch, first class school second to none.”

If his father’s name sounds familiar, it means two things—1) you’re an older sort and 2) it’s because he was an NFL receiver for 10 seasons in the 1980s and 1990s.

Brett Perriman was a second-round pick out of Miami in 1988 by the New Orleans Saints and played three seasons with the Saints, six with the Detroit Lions and a final season split between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.

He had 525 career receptions for 6,589 yards and 30 touchdowns, including 108 grabs for 1,488 yards and nine scores for Detroit in 1995.

The younger Perriman had 50 grabs for 1,044 yards and nine touchdowns this season and finished his three years with the Knights with 115 receptions, 2,243 yards and 16 scores.

Perriman reportedly did not get a first- or second-day grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board, meaning that group recommended he return to UCF for his senior year.

UCF coach George O’Leary told the Sentinel that he hasn’t heard back from the advisory group.

“We did apply to the [NFL] advisory board to see what spots he finished at and hadn’t heard back.”

Perriman is listed at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds and the Draft Combine in February will likely be important for him to increase his stock.

He was named UCF’s most outstanding receiver and was the first receiver at the school since Mike Sims-Walker in 2006 to gain 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
