United States soccer star Hope Solo had the domestic violence charges against her dismissed on Tuesday.
In a year that has been characterized by domestic violence in professional sports in the most unfortunate way possible, some people might have forgotten about the pending charges against U.S. Women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo.

She spoke about the situation herself and about domestic violence back in September, but many people might not have been otherwise aware of Solo’s court date on Tuesday.
There were two counts of assault for Solo. Those charges were dismissed.
Multiple outlets reported the news.

CNN offered the following details about the decision.
"CNN affiliate KOMO reported that attorney Todd Maybrown successfully argued in court that he couldn’t depose witnesses for the prosecution because they refused to be questioned despite a court order.Solo, who holds the national team record for most shutouts, didn’t appear in court. She was in Carson, California, at the squad’s training camp in preparation for the upcoming World Cup."
If that sounds like a procedural issue, that’s because it is. Even so, Solo took to Facebook once again to express how pleased she was with the outcome on Tuesday. In the post, Solo says that she is grateful to have closure and that she looks forward to winning a World Cup in 2015.
It would be great to see Solo advocate for awareness and conversation about this difficult topic of domestic violence. Ultimately that will be an intensely personal decision for her, but the need for conversation is clear. We need to see advocates and people willing to speak, especially once the moment passes for trendy commercials about the issue.
Whatever happened in the incident itself, it is understandable that Hope Solo would want closure. It is understandable that she would want to put this issue to rest and focus on the action on the pitch now. Hopefully she can do all of that, but hopefully she can still be a voice on this issue as we all try to tackle it.
The original alleged issue involved Solo and her sister and cousin and took place this past June in Seattle.
As she indicated, Solo will now turn her full attention to the 2015 Women’s World Cup, which will be played in Canada.
