Golden Tate denies the rumors that he had an affair with Russell Wilson’s wife.

There have been some rumors swirling around about the reason for Golden Tate’s departure from the Seattle Seahawks this past offseason.

Tate was an instrumental piece to the Seahawks offense last season, especially in the playoffs, and seemed to have a great relationship with his teammates. So a lot of people have been wondering, why would Tate want to leave Seattle? He seems to be a good fit there, for both him and the team.

That didn’t stop him from signing a five-year, $31 million contract with the Detroit Lions as a free agent this past offseason.

A lot of people have speculated that there was maybe some tension growing between Tate and his quarterback, Russell Wilson. The rumors have even gone as far as saying that Tate possibly had an affair with Wilson’s wife, Ashton, that led to the couple filing for divorce.

Golden Tate obviously denies these rumors and says they could not be further from the truth.

“I did not have an affair with Russell Wilson’s wife, nor did I have anything to do with their divorce,” Tate said. “That is laughable for anyone who knows us. His ex-wife, Ashton, is still best friends with my girlfriend. Russell and I were good friends when I was in Seattle, on and off the field — he knows the rumors about me were unfounded, damaging to my reputation, and an attack on my character.”

While I personally believe he’s telling the truth and that this whole affair thing is just a rumor and pure speculation, I couldn’t help but notice that he used past tense when addressing his friendship with Wilson. Now this is just pure speculation as well on my part, but perhaps maybe there was some kind of fallout between Wilson and Tate, just not having anything to do with Wilson’s wife.

I’m not one for starting rumors so I won’t even begin to try to guess what that fallout could have been, if there even was a fallout. It’s just something I found to be interesting.

In fact, the fallout may have not been with Russell Wilson, maybe it was with Percy Harvin. It was reported last season that the two receivers got into and punches were thrown. Tate confirmed that they had a confrontation, but denied any punches being thrown. Again, this is pure speculation, but perhaps it was his relationship with Harvin, personally and professionally, that led him to sign with Detroit.

Either way, it really does not matter. Tate has moved on to Detroit and despite their season being over, Tate did very well there alongside Calvin Johnson.

Meanwhile, Seattle is fighting for back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
