Trent Richardson, the struggling former first-round pick will not be traveling with the Indianapolis Colts to the AFC Championship.

The Indianapolis Colts once gave up a first-round pick for Trent Richardson, which will no doubt go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. Not only has Richardson been bad for Indianapolis, he has seen his playing time go away altogether.

With the Colts traveling to face the New England Patriots this weekend for the AFC Championship, they will be without Richardson who isn’t traveling with the team due to personal reasons.

Richardson was inactive for last weeks contest against the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round. Richardson, after being inactive for the game, vowed that it would not happen again.

“That situation will never happen to me again,” he said to the Indianapolis Star. “Anybody can quote me, today, because it’s never going to happen again.”

Well, now he isn’t playing at all this week. It is unclear and unfair to Richardson to speculate why he might not be playing, especially if there are personal reasons involved. Things have been very rocky since the product out of Alabama’s career started in the league.

Once the No. 3 overall pick in the draft by the Cleveland Browns, Richardson has found his way to not playing, and at this rate could soon be out of a job. The value of running backs has dropped significantly in the new days of the NFL with teams waiting til later rounds to pick up backs.

It’s performances like that of Richardson, that has scared teams from committing to the running back position so highly in the draft. Especially, when you can get sleepers like Alfred Morris or Andre Ellington in later rounds.

The Colts have a chance to write their ticket to Glendale, AZ if they can pull off the road upset Sunday. Richardson, however will not be there to help them in their quest.
