The Atlanta Falcons will reportedly interview Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for a second time on Monday.

While NFL teams around them have snagged what head coaches they can, the Atlanta Falcons have remained content to stand pat on their roster and wait for their guy. If reports of their next scheduled interview are any indication, the team may have found their guy and stuck with him, despite the wait associated with his hire. Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will return for a second interview to become the next head coach of the Falcons, per Pro Football Talk.

The Falcons have been tied mostly to defense-first coaches, but the rumors have long tied them closest to Quinn, who has been credited as one of the primary architects of the Seahawks defense, which has been among the best in the league since the arrival of head coach Pete Carroll.

Quinn has been passed over in the past because the Seahawks play so late in the season that teams get antsy and hire a head coach before waiting for Quinn to become available.

The Falcons, it would appear, have no such hesitation. Even if Atlanta wants to hire Dan Quinn today, they will have to wait until the day after the Super Bowl in which Quinn and the Seahawks will play against the New England Patriots. No matter for owner Arthur Blank, whose team can’t afford to waste the prime of quarterback Matt Ryan any longer.

As one of the more attractive destinations for a prospective head coach, Atlanta could afford to wait a little more than teams like the Buffalo Bills or New York Jets could, who have already hired their respective defensive gurus who had also been tied to the Falcons. Many believed that former Jets coach and incoming Bills coach Rex Ryan preferred Atlanta.

But the Falcons shuffled their feet and Rex packed his bags, presumably because Atlanta is still keenly interested in Quinn. With the field narrowing, Atlanta stands as Quinn’s best choice if he would like to head coach in 2015. The two will discuss just that on Monday, and they could form a hush-hush agreement in the process. We won’t learn anything official to that end until the Falcons either hire someone else or announce Quinn’s hire after the Super Bowl.
