On Monday, last week’s Twitter sports rankings were released.

This past week was a pretty big deal in sports. For starters, Monday featured the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship Game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks. Then we had a series of featured NBA match-ups, some of which included the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, or the Washington Wizards taking on the Chicago Bulls.

Over the weekend, NFL fans were treated to spectacular NFC and AFC Championship games featuring the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and Indianapolis Colts. Finally, the week concluded with the UFC’s Fight Night card from Boston’s TD Garden, featuring Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver as the event’s headliner. On Monday, Fox Sports writer Damon Martin released that week’s Twitter audience ranks for the US market.

More from Green Bay Packers

Posted below is a table featuring the audience ranks of Twitter users during the broadcast coverage of the aforementioned sporting events, as well as a few others. As one can see from it, it is clear that football, whether professional or college, still remains paramount in this country above all others. However, what is surprising to note is just how close the gap is between the National Championship and the NFC title games. Even more surprising is that the former finished ahead of the AFC Championship game.

Considering that college football almost never beats the NFL in viewership, coupled with the CFB title game being hosted on cable and the NFL match-up broadcasting on the nation’s largest network in CBS, this is absolutely huge.

Mr. Martin also brings up another valid point. The UFC managing to break the top 10 in such a stacked week of sports coverage is incredibly noteworthy. While it was not exactly Zuffa’s most prolific card with regards to star power, UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver still had a great showing when you consider that it was held on the same night, and in the same metropolitan area as the AFC title game.

One final thing of note; though the NFC title game had the most unique audience, it should be documented that the Ohio State vs. Oregon game had the highest totals for impressions, unique authors, and unique authors.
