The nephew of Cowboys Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin is in hot water after a foolish Snapchat photo has led to suspension behind his decision to commit to Auburn.

Someone should really pull Tim Irvin aside and teach him the definition of “discreet.”

The nephew of Cowboys Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin and four-star recruit originally announced his intent to attend University of Texas during the U.S. Army All-America Bowl earlier this month. Irvin said that playing in Austin was the “right spot” for his college plans.

Recruits do change their minds between now and College Football Christmas National Signing Day, so the fact that Irvin decided that Auburn was the “right spot” after his trip last weekend shouldn’t come as a shock.

Hey, it’s the SEC, and since when was the last time Texas played for a national title, right?

That is, until the light bulb in Irvin’s head dimmed just long enough for him to bust out a Snapchat photo (since deleted) that showed him flashing a handful of $20 bills and assorted green paper that makes the world go ’round.

Since someone screengrabbed Irvin’s newfound cash advance, Gus Malzhan’s newest Tiger had some explaining to do. After all, when you bail out on the University of Texas, Longhorns fans do tend to get a mite pissed, especially when there’s the impression that Irvin’s commit was bought.

Well, seems like the money was a “graduation gift” Irvin received from his aunt and “others” who decided to throw some cold hard cash in his direction.

Let’s be clear: no one is accusing Irvin or Auburn of wrongdoing. Irvin is a very sought-after player who has the potential to be an impact player either as a receiver or defensive back, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to play for a program a season removed from being one play away from winning the national title.

Still, at the least, Irvin’s timing leaves him open to plenty of criticism. Like many teenagers, Irvin made a huge mistake on social media, one (in his case) that he will survive. Perhaps when his uncle is done with his Super Bowl assignment for NFL Network, young Mr. Irvin will receive the much-needed lesson on discretion.

One thing is certain: Longhorns fans have deemed Irvin an Enemy of the State, and it’s pretty safe to assume that screengrab is going to work its way into circulation once SEC play begins next fall.
