Cristiano Ronaldo: Lionel Messi and I motivate each other

In an interview with France Football, Cristiano Ronaldo opened up about his career where he notably mentioned how he and Lionel Messi benefit from each other’s presence.

After winning his third Ballon d’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he felt it was justified and acknowledged his rivalry with Lionel Messi as a key factor.

Ronaldo, who was seen interacting with Messi in positive spirits during the Ballon d’Or ceremony, believes the Barcelona forward also benefits from their competitive rivalry.

“I’m sure that the competition between us is a motivating factor for him too. It’s good for me, for him and for other players who are keen to grow,” Ronaldo said. “Messi has four Ballon d`Or awards, I have three. This is all good for the world of football.”

Ronaldo and Messi have constantly been breaking world records while scoring crazy amounts of goals per season that defy logic. It’s no surprise that Ronaldo – as narcissistic as he may seem – has admitted that he benefits from Messi’s brilliance and vice-versa.

However, whether it’s good for the world of football is another question as there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can break the Ballon d’Or duopoly with the last time a player won the award who wasn’t Messi or Ronaldo was Kaka in 2007.

Do you think another player can win the Ballon d’Or as long as Messi and Ronaldo are playing at the top level? Let us know in the comments!
