Top prep quarterback Kyler Murray was once a lock to commit to Texas A&M, but the five-star player may be on the verge of swerving to arch rival Texas.

College Station may be on the verge of full blown panic, after five-star quarterback Kyler Murray tweeted the following:

That photo goes beyond panic. If a regular picture is worth a thousand words, then this one will invoke millions among Texas A&M fans, who are now wondering if their prized recruit is truly on the verge of becoming (gasp!) a Texas Longhorn.

Panic kicked in on Wednesday as Murray, the nation’s third-ranked quarterback according to 247sports.com, made a mid-week visit to Austin along with Damarkus Lodge, a four-star wide receiver who remains uncommitted. Both Murray and Lodge sent out tweets with their projected numbers, and while Lodge — who visited Texas A&M last weekend — is intriguing to Texas fans, the vision of Murray in burnt orange is sending shockwaves throughout the state.

Perhaps the most prolific quarterback in Texas high school football history, Murray originally committed to Texas A&M last spring en route to leading Allen High to its third straight state championship. Although he made an official visit to A&M last weekend, both Texas and Oklahoma had jumped on the radar in an attempt to pull out what would be one of the biggest swerves in recruiting annals.

Although Murray reportedly told the A&M coaching staff of his intention to visit Texas, what was once a sure thing is now bringing concern that Murray is having buyer’s remorse as National Signing Day looms just two weeks away.

Murray is the son of Aggies royalty, as his father, Kevin Murray, played quarterback at Texas A&M from 1983-86 and took the team to a pair of Southwest Conference titles along with two trips to the Cotton Bowl. He finished 25-6-1 during his time at A&M.

What makes things more intriguing is that new Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh paid a visit earlier this week to quarterback Zach Gentry, who is (currently) Texas’ top quarterback prospect.

This becomes a very high-stakes trip for Texas, which could turn out to be the biggest loser in all of this. If the Longhorns do flip Murray, then their already-solid recruiting class approaches top five status. On the other hand, if Murray is just spending a Wednesday afternoon from school and if Harbaugh gets Gentry to swerve, then Texas could be left thin behind Tyrone Swoopes at the position.
