United States Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo was suspended from all national team activities for 30 days after her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, was arrested for DUI while driving a USWNT vehicle on Monday morning, according to TMZ.

The USWNT was holding training camp in Carson, California, a city in Los Angeles County.

Around 2 a.m. Monday morning, police officers pulled over Stevens and Solo in front of a Manhattan Beach Hotel. Upon arrival, officers could tell both Stevens and Solo appeared to be intoxicated.

Shortly after, the proverbial poop hit the fan.

TMZ is reporting Solo was belligerent with officers during the arrest, and based on her behavior, Solo should have been arrested.

Witnesses said “officers went out of their way” to keep Solo from being arrested and even convinced hotel workers to take Solo inside the hotel to “prevent her from doing something stupid.”

According to the report, the USWNT would/could have been liable if Stevens had injured someone or something while driving their vehicle.

Honestly, Solo’s suspension was well overdue. She’s been having issues since this summer, and it looks like she needed a wake-up call.

Initially, Solo’s suspension was announced and there was speculation it had something to do with her dismissed court case from this summer in which Solo was accused of assaulting two family members.

Like I mentioned, the case was dismissed because Solo’s two family members refused to cooperate with authorities, although the prosecution was still willing to try Solo on the charges.

Technically, Solo didn’t break any team rules and was never convicted, so she was not suspended from the national team.

On Wednesday, Solo apologized and shared he apology on twitter:

As the best keeper in the world, Solo’s suspension comes at a very bad time for the USWNT, as the team prepares for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in June, which is going to be held in Canada.

Solo is the United States top keeper and will need to be at the top of her game when the USWNT tries to win their first World Cup since 1999.

The USWNT has exhibition matches against England and France in February, and because of her suspension, Solo will not be allowed to participate in those matches. After those matches, the USWNT plays in the Algarve Cup in March before the World Cup begins in June.
