As Ronaldo barreled towards the baseline, he takes a quick smack to the face with his left at Edimar, who went down like Charlie Murphy. He was swarmed by Cordoba players before taking a shot to José Ángel Crespo’s beautiful mug. The action drew a straight red card, and Ronaldo was ejected from the game.

Ronaldo was having a lackluster match and his frustration boiled over, with Real Madrid on the ropes.

When your in the 82nd minute against an inferior opponent and your still knotted up, it is understandable to be frustrated. You’re being subjected to overly physical play followed by the “fragile flower” act from Edimar. It’s a wonderful acting performance by Edimar to draw Ronaldo’s ire and get him to lash back out, but in all honesty, that shouldn’t be enough to force him to fight back.

Perhaps going straight to red for Cristiano Ronaldo is a bit of an overreaction, but Ronaldo can’t put his team in this position. Now, Madrid misses him for the rest of what was previously a manageably easy win, and he just shrugs it off as though it was nothing.

Losing the best player in the world could have been a crushing blow to Real Madrid, but fortunately for Real Madrid, they were able to pull it out in stoppage time with a penalty kick from Gareth Bell.

After Bale earned a free kick from just outside of the box, he fired the ball in looking for the go-ahead goal.

Bale’s shot deflected off of Cordoba’s wall of defenders, but it was redirected by the arm of Cordoba’s Federico Cartabia. It was Cartabia’s second card of the match, so he was also sent off. With the handball occuring in the box, Real Madrid earned a penalty.

With a second crack at the net, Bale was able to bury the shot for the game-winner.

Real Madrid currently sits atop the La Liga table, with a narrow lead over rival Barcelona.
