Quinn is expected to bring in Raheem Morris and Richard Smith.
Quinn bringing in Morris has been rumored for a while now. Morris is expected to coach in a hybrid assistant-defensive coordinator role where, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach and current Washington Redskins defensive backs coach, will be able to put his stamp on his own defense.
Morris, 38, is still one of the younger coaches in the league and if he is able to find success in the league, he will most likely get another head coaching shot down the line.
Richard Smith is a new name however. He used to be the defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans and was last the linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos.
Now, according to NFL.comās Ian Rapoport, Smith and Morris could be co-defensive coordinators.
It is an interesting concept having two defensive coordinators especially with the head coach being a former defensive coordinator himself. With the Falcons emphasis towards defense in their coaching hire, it appears the franchise really has a focus this offseason.
The team already features a dynamic offense featuring Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Roddy White. If Quinn and his new defensive staff can get the defense to match the offense, their is no doubt the Falcons can win a very winnable NFC South and maybe go further.
In this league, the Seahawks showed last year that defense wins championships and Quinn has had the fortune of watching a championship defense firsthand and perhaps watching his defense in Seattle win a second consecutive title.
The Atlanta Falcons are smart to go out and get some0ne with a championship pedigree. To build a championship level foundation, you have to have a championship level system in place and Quinn can provide that to a Falcons defense that will surely bring in a lot of new pieces to get that side of the ball corrected after giving up a lot of yards last season.
