The ACC schools have scheduled a non-conference home and home even though they’re in the same conference

With the ACC broken up into two seven-team divisions, not every team plays each other every year. To counterbalance that, North Carolina and Wake Forest have scheduled a home-and-home series for 2019 and 2021 so that the two schools located in North Carolina can play each other and bring in fans from across the state to see the rivalry played out on the gridiron.

What makes it weird is the fact that despite the two schools being in the same conference, they are billing it as a non-conference showdown. It’s also surprising the NCAA allowed considering the strict rules they have for everything.

According to ESPN college football insider Brett McMurphy, the game will be exactly such when the two teams do battle at the end of this decade and in the beginning of the next.

The 2019 contest will take place in Winston-Salem at Wake Forest, while the 2021 contest will be played in Chapel Hill, at the University of North Carolina.

The two teams are accustomed to playing each other and want to keep it that way, as the rivalry between the two is important to the state of North Carolina.

So while these two teams are in the same conference, they will be non-conference when they take the field against each other in 2019 and 2021.

This will surely confuse some.
