Fantasy Basketball: Turbo FanDuel Lineups For January 27th

There ā€œturboā€ tournaments in FanDuel tonight feature three games: Pistons-Cavs, Heat-Bucks, and Grizzlies-Mavs. All of these games will be over by the time the late news airs on the east coast, so you know if you have won before the next morning! These tournaments are generally a little smaller than the all day ones, but they provide another chance to win!

Here are my turbo FanDuel lineups for January 27th:

Point Guards:

Bargains:

D.J. Augustin, Pistons ($6,000): Augustin blew up the Raptors in his first start filling in for Brandon Jennings. He racked up almost 50 fantasy points on Sunday. Don’t expect that much success against Cleveland, but he should still be up around 30 or more. As he showed on Sunday, he could be a huge bargain until his price gets out of control.

Mario Chalmers, Heat ($5,000): Chalmers seems to have thrust himself back into the lead in the point guard race in Miami. He played 40 minutes and scored 28.3 fantasy points against the Bulls, and could be in line for similar minutes and success against the Bulls tonight.

Worth The Cost:

Kyrie Irving, Cavaliers ($8,500): Irving still puts up good numbers when he plays around 40 minutes, but the Cavs may not need him to do that with Iman Shumpert now in the picture. The team finally has a little bit of depth in the backcourt besides the unspectacular Matthew Dellavedova. Due to that, they have elected to play Irving a little less. He has still averaged 38.7 minutes over his last ten games and 35.9 fantasy points. Those are good numbers at his price, but I still don’t really trust him against the Pistons, even with Brandon Jennings out. That said, he is likely the best option for this version of FanDuel tournaments.

Brandon Knight, Bucks ($7,300): When the matchup is right, so is Knight. He has put up some really good numbers against average teams, and the Heat are average. At least on the perimeter. He had a little bit of an off night against the Spurs on Sunday, but I wouldn’t let that worry me. Knight is a solid option in the Turbo.

Risky Plays:

Rajon Rondo, Mavericks ($7,400): Rondo is a poor shooter anyway, and when you look at his matchup against the Grizzlies, you have to cringe. The first time he played Memphis this year, he had just 11.1 fantasy points in 26 minutes. Stay far away from this one.

Beno Udrih, Grizzlies ($3,900): Mike Conley hurt his wrist last night, and is questionable for tonight. Even if he does play, Udrih could be a good option. Wrist injuries are tricky for ball handlers. Udrih racked up 31.9 fantasy points yesterday against the Magic after Conley left, so he should be a solid play against Dallas tonight if Conley can’t play.

My Lineup:

Chalmers and Augustin ($11,000)

Next: Is Wade Worth It?

Shooting Guards:

Bargains:

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Pistons ($4,700): Augustin wasn’t the only one who stepped up in the wake of the injury to Brandon Jennings. KCP had one of his best games of the year, and played a season high 42 minutes against the Raptors on Sunday. He still won’t wow you with numbers – his fantasy output was still only 23.6 points – but that is a good output for his price. His minutes will stay up in the 40 range with Jennings out for the year, and is a relatively low-risk option because of his price and court time.

Courtney Lee, Grizzlies ($4,300): Lee is going to start again tonight against Dallas. He has averaged 20.1 fantasy points over his last eight games. That is not great, but if you can get 20 points for this price in this small of a tournament, you almost have to take the shot.

Worth The Cost:

Dwyane Wade, Heat ($7,800): Wade is not producing at as high of a level as his was earlier this month, but we could see flashes of it tonight against the Bucks. He has only been over 30 fantasy points once in his last four games, but he has the best matchup of any of the high dollar options tonight, and is a strong bet to reach 30 fantasy points tonight.

J.R. Smith, Cavaliers ($6,000): Smith was under 20 fantasy points for the first time since January 11th against the Thunder on Sunday. The Pistons perimeter defense took a hit when Brandon Jennings went down, so Smith could have a solid game tonight, even against Detroit.

Risky Plays:

Monta Ellis, Mavericks ($7,800): I know, Ellis is tempting because he torched a good Pelicans D on Sunday. Just remember that he is notorious for struggling against the Grizzlies. He has averaged 19 fantasy points in two games against them this year, but you never know what happens with a hot shooter. Mike Conley was also out the last time that Ellis played the Grizzlies, and he put up almost 35 fantasy points. It’s that first dreadful game that keeps me wary.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks ($5,800): The solid play of O.J. Mayo has taken away from Antetokounmpo’s fantasy numbers. He has played 69 minutes over the last two games but only has 36.9 fantasy points to show for it. That said, those were against the solid defenses of the Pistons and Spurs, so he should fare a little better against Miami tonight.

My Lineup:

Caldwell-Pope and Lee ($9,000)

Next: All Hail The King!

Small Forward:

Bargain:

Jeff Green, Grizzlies ($5,300): Green seems to be adapting well to his new habitat in Memphis. He is averaging 24. 2 fantasy points since his move to Memphis, and has even hit the 30 mark once. He is worth playing when he has a good matchup, and he has just that tonight against Dallas.

Worth The Cost:

LeBron James, Cavaliers ($11,000): Since his return to the court seven games ago, the King has averaged 42 fantasy points per game, and has cracked the 50 point barrier four times. King James is your best chance tonight to have a 50 point player. You likely need to find a way to get him in your lineup.

Khris Middleton, Bucks ($5,500): We have to sit here and wonder what Middleton could do with true starter’s minutes. With Jason Kidd at the helm, in Milwaukee we will likely never know. Still, Middleton has put up 66.4 fantasy points in the last two games despite only playing 58 minutes. Jared Dudley has cooled off considerably, only netting five fantasy points agianst the Spurs on Sunday in 20 minutes. Still, if you are going to take a chance on anyone with a deer on the front of their uniform, it should be Middleton. He has not been under 27 minutes since January 4th.

Risky Plays:

Shawne Williams, Heat ($3,500): Luol Deng is doubtful after playing 73 minutes in his last two games. It sounds like he needs rest, and Williams is the likely beneficiary, unless the Heat elect to go small and put Wade at SF with Shabazz Napier at SG. Check in before tipoff to see if Williams is a good sneaky play.

Chandler Parsons, Mavericks ($6,000): Parsons was completely shut down by the Pelicans on Sunday, netting just 4.2 fantasy points in 30 minutes. The Grizzlies defense is just as good, if not better than New Orleans, so expect another off night from Parsons. Stay far away from this one as well.

My Lineup:

James and Middleton ($16,500)

Next: You Need To Spend At PF Tonight

Jan 26, 2015; Memphis, TN, USA; Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph reacts to a play from the bench during the second half against the Orlando Magic at FedExForum. Mandatory Credit: Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Power Forwards:

Bargains:

Chris Bosh, Heat ($8,200): Bosh has cooled off since his torrid November, but that doesn’t mean that he is no longer a fantasy asset. He has played over 33 minutes every game that he has played in January, and has not been below 25 fantasy points in any of them. He has a great matchup against the Bucks tonight, and with Hassan Whiteside developing alongside him at a rapid pace, it could increase Bosh’s value even more.

Worth The Cost:

Greg Monroe, Pistons ($8,600): Monroe has been a nightmare for opposing teams since moving into the starting lineup. He has not been under 30 fantasy points since January 2nd, and is averaging 37.6 fantasy points over his last ten games. He has everything a daily player covets: consistently above 30 fantasy points, and a great matchup agianst the Cavaliers. I am more comfortable with Monroe than any other PF tonight.

Zach Randolph, Grizzlies ($8,500): Randolph has not been below 30 fantasy points since his return to the court on January 9th, and is averaging 39 fantasy points per game in that span. His early season inconsistencies are a distant memory, and Randolph is once again a fantasy force. Not like you need another reason to play him, but if you are still on the fence, he gets the Mavericks, who have had all sorts of issues against opposing bigs this year.

Risky Plays:

Kevin Love, Cavaliers ($8,800): Love is inconsistent at best as long as LeBron James is on the court with him, at least from a fantasy perspective. He has been over 40 fantasy points twice since the return of the King, and has been under 30 three times. There is a strong likelihood that will happen against Detroit tonight. There are better options at lower prices.

Dwight Powell, Mavericks ($3,600): Tyson Chandler may sit tonight, and if he does, Powell becomes the de-facto center for the Mavericks. He racked up 22.2 fantasy points in just 15 minutes against the Pelicans on Sunday, and has established himself as a suitable backup if nothing else.

My Lineups:

A: Monroe and Randolph ($17,100)

Next: Can Whiteside Do It Again?

Center:

Bargain:

Hassan Whiteside, Heat ($6,000): Whiteside set a franchise record with 12 blocks in just 25 minutes on Sunday. He also picked up his first career triple-double. He will get the start tonight against the Bucks, and you really have to be crazy not to play him with the issues that the Bucks have up front.

Worth The Cost:

Marc Gasol, Grizzlies ($8,600): Consider Gasol the player that those of you that can afford insurance should take. He consistently puts up numbers in the 30’s and 40’s with a couple of 50’s thrown in for good measure. There is a chance that Whiteside will outscore Gasol, but there is still enough risk involved with Whiteside to cause apprehension. There is none of that risk involved with Gasol.

Risky Play:

Timofey Mozgov, Cavaliers ($5,100): Mozgov was held in check by the Thunder on Sunday in a game where he had a good matchup. Now he gets to tangle with Andre Drummond and the Pistons tonight, which is a terrible matchup for him. I would stay away from this. I don’t care how cheap he is. Find the $900 to get Whiteside.

My Lineups:

Whiteside ($6,000)
