Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has revealed that the reported confrontation between Lionel Messi and Luis Enrique did in fact happen.
After Barcelona lost to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad side earlier this month, there were reports aplenty of a spat between Messi – who was benched that day – and Enrique. Messi wasn’t particularly pleased with Enrique and didn’t show up for a training session after the defeat to La Real.
Messi went on to follow many Chelsea players on Instagram, fueling speculation that he could be on the move to Chelsea unless Enrique was sacked. It was a time of instability in Barcelona as a new authoritative side of Messi emerged.
Messi was quick to deny the rumours:
Messi on Barça TV: "I did not ask for our coach to be sacked, I would never do that, it hurts as lies comes from Barcelona not Madrid."

However, Barcelona teammate Jeremy Mathieu has risked the wrath of Messi by confirming to French radio station RMC that a confrontation at least occurred between him and the manager.
“It happened when we returned from our holidays. All of a sudden Leo lost his composure in training after being on the receiving end of a foul that wasn’t called,” Mathieu said, via Spanish news outlet Marca. “The situation got pretty tense and a few harsh words were exchanged.”
“These things happen all over the place, but with us it’s been exaggerated. The incident has been given a greater importance than it should have and has been blown out of all proportion. That’s the problem we have playing for Barcelona.”
We wonder how Messi will react to this now. Maybe he should follow some Arsenal players on Instagram?
