2015 Heisman betting odds: Ezekiel Elliot opens as favorite
By Sam Richmond
Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot is the 2015 Heisman favorite, according to recently released betting odds.
Only one running back since 2000 has won the Heisman trophy, with Alabama tailback Mark Ingram being the lone exception in 2009.

So it really says something about Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot’s abilities that the sophomore has opened as the overall favorite at 6-1 odds to win the most prestigious individual honor in college sports next season, according to Bovada.
Interestingly enough, another tailback, LSU running back Leonard Fournette, isn’t too far behind Elliot at 7-1. Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott also has 7-1 odds.
Still, Elliot is the well-deserved favorite.
The St. Louis, Missouri native was absolutely dominate for the Buckeyes during their National Championship run. Elliot rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns against Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship game. He followed that up with 230 yards and two touchdowns against Alabama in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Elliot then capped off the season with a remarkable 246-yard, four touchdown performance against Oregon in College Football Playoff Final. In just three games, Elliot rushed for 696 yards and eight touchdowns.
Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer spoke about just how good Elliot is after the win over Oregon.
From Cleveland.com:
"“A monster,” said Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, who made sure Elliott was the first player ever to hold the new championship trophy. “He’s the most underrated back in America. He’s one of the best post-contact yard guys I’ve ever been around, and on top of that he’s a great human being.”"
Elliot is far from the only Buckeye that has strong Heisman odds. Quarterbacks Cardale Jones (14-1), J.T. Barrett (16-1) and Braxton Miller (18-1) are each among the top-12 favorites. Needless to say, the Buckeyes have plenty of offensive talent on their roster right now.
After his National Championship performance, Elliot spoke about his Heisman aspirations, telling Cleveland.com “That’s something you dream about as a kid when you’re playing NCAA football and you create your own little player, and he wins the Heisman.”
It sure will be interesting to see if Elliot can turn that dream into a reality next situation.
