BMW has released a commercial to be aired during the Super Bowl, featuring Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel.

A new commercial has surfaced on YouTube, courtesy of BMW USA. The United States branch of the German based automaker will run the advertisement during the first quarter of Sunday night’s Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. The one minute spot stars former Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel, and involves the two discussing (in utter confusion), the mechanics behind BMW’s new i3. The car is electric powered, constructed mostly from carbon fiber, and assembled in a wind-powered facility. Technology is a wonderful thing, right?

Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel used to be a dynamic duo on The Today Show, and in one classic moment, they couldn’t wrap their heads around a new technology called ‘The Internet’.

In what has since become a monument to our collective ignorance on the topic at the time, the duo were flabbergasted by the idea of sending emails and using the internet in the way we have deemed second nature nowadays.

The internet was a strange new concept that had only been around for the better part of a decade or so. And in 1994, one could say that the world wide web was still very much in its infancy, at least relative to today. The BMW ad hilariously channels this classic moment of technological ignorance and uses it to introduce us to their new line of cars.
