The Minnesota Timberwolves have a few veterans they could trade at the deadline but that’s probably not something that is going to happen.

Once again, the Minnesota Timberwolves are going nowhere fast and it’s a trend that has again made them sellers — at least in principal — at the deadline. Loaded with veterans like Mo Williams, Kevin Martin and Thad Young, the Timberwolves could cash out and continue to load up building for the future.

That seems like the best option, right? Well it’s not an option that Flip Saunders is seriously considering at the moment, as the Wolves look unlikely to pull the trigger on any deals before the deadline passes on February 19th.

According to Sean Deveney from Sporting News, the chance that the Minnesota Timberwolves make a trade before the deadline is hovering above zero percent.

"In fact, a source rates the possibility of the Timberwolves—who also have veterans Thaddeus Young and Kevin Martin on hand—making any trades before the deadline as an, “almost zero chance.”"

The Wolves are sitting at 8-38, which is good for the worst record in all of basketball — worse than even the New York Knicks by a single game. Minnesota could deal all of the veterans and accumulate draft picks and expiring deals to make plays at free agents this summer, but they seem willing to hold their cards for the moment.

Of course, the trade deadline is 20 days away which means a lot can happen between now and then. The Wolves winning many more games isn’t among the likeliest possibilities but they could decide that trading away their assets and continuing to build around Andrew Wiggins and Ricky Rubio moving forward is the smart thing to do.
