Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel will be entering rehab for undisclosed reasons, and Skip Bayless is proud of him.
A day after the Super Bowl, the biggest story in the NFL isn’t that Tom Brady won his fourth NFL title, it’s that an up and coming quarterback who has often been in the headlines for the wrong reasons is getting some help. For once in his career, Johnny Manziel is getting positive press for a big decision that he’s making, as it has been revealed that he will be entering rehab.

It hasn’t been officially stated exactly what Manziel is entering rehab for, and to speculate would be unfair and unethical. Needless to say, First Take weighed in on Manziel’s announcement that he’s entering rehab and they had some pretty pompous things to say.
Many people were wondering if Skip Bayless was going to say something stupid about the decision by Manziel to get himself help. What we got was a mixture of stupidity and weird tenderness that was laced in self appreciation.
Bayless mentioned that he was proud of Manziel for entering rehab — of course, only after making it clear that he’s been saying Manziel is an alcoholic for a while. Bayless loses points for patting himself on the back for speculating that Manziel was an alcoholic but he gains some back for giving Manziel props for getting help.
The First Take mantra is to say the stupidest thing possible in the most arrogant way possible, so this moment of tenderness — even though it was dripping in preachiness and self appreciation — was a little weird to hear but was something that felt good anyways.
Manziel wants help and the fact that he’s getting it is something that shouldn’t be made fun of and First Take avoiding that route is the most shocking thing about this.
