Landon Donovan becomes part of a recreational league team in this new advertisement for Wells Fargo.
Major League Soccer‘s all time leading scorer will try to tackle more records. Sure, they might not count for anything, or even be official for that matter. But according to a new Wells Fargo commercial featuring Landon Donovan, the former United States Men’s National Soccer team captain will be joining a recreational league.

Yep, Donovan will be tearing it up, that is, if coach ever lets him play. Oh well. Sometimes you join a down-on-its-luck squad. Other times, such as this, one gets placed on a team headlined by “Hat Trick Rick.” The commercial itself is actually very well made, and Donovan is a good sport for being able to make fun of himself. Remember when he was cut from the USMNT last year prior to the 2014 World Cup? Foot Locker capitalized on the story, along with his sense of humor, and produced one of the best ads of that year.
From Everton, the LA Galaxy, to this. At least the guy won’t be cut again. Surely, that unnamed rec league team go do away with “Spray Dan” and be just fine. “El Nino” on the other hand? Well, you go ahead and tell us that he does not remind you of a young Clint Dempsey.
