University of Akron’s New Helmets Feature a Close Up of Kangaroo Mascot

More from College Football

The University of Akron football team has leaked images of new helmets the team may be using in 2015.

The new helmets were shown off in a tweet by the Akron Zips Equipment twitter feed. (Side note: this is the most exciting thing a sports equipment twitter feed can possibly do. Revel in the glory, Akron Zips Equipment Twitter).

The new helmets have not been confirmed as official, but they look amazing. The old helmet was fine (you can see it on the right), but this helmet accents with blue and gold colors well, while prominently featuring Zippy, their well-known kangaroo mascot.

From 2010-2012, Akron’s football team has been among the worst in Division I FBS, going an abysmal 3-33, but recently things have been looking up for the downtrodden program. They hired a Bowden (Terry Bowden, not his legendary father Bobby, but a Bowden nonetheless), and improved to 5-7 this season, including a win over Pittsburgh.

Now if these helmets hit the field with them next season, they may be looking better and playing better. They may yet be able to make other teams “fear the Roo.”
