CeCe Jefferson was one of the few five-star recruits who announced his college plans on National Signing Day and the stud defensive end is headed to play for the Florida Gators.

The nation’s No. 7 overall recruit named the Ole Miss Rebels his leader on Dec. 29, but after taking official visits to Auburn, LSU, Alabama a sleeper and the in-state Florida Gators still lurking for CeCe Jefferson there was a bit of intrigue surrounding his announcement.

Jefferson looked like he’d be a slam dunk commitment for Florida for the Glen Saint Mary, FL native and Baker County Senior standout, but the coaching change at the end of the year threw some wrinkles into the equation for the No. 2 strong-side defensive end recruit and No. 4 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

His connection to Florida moved to Auburn after the Tigers hired Will Muschamp to be their defensive coordinator, but he felt at home in Gainesville and Jefferson becomes the second five-star recruit to commit to Florida on signing day, joining No. 2 overall recruit Martez Ivey.

The two headliners of this class should engage in some great battles on the practice field over the next three-four years.

Jefferson’s closing speed and pursuit grade out very high but I wonder about his lack of height and length at 6-2 and wonder if the 275-pound recruit could be best suited at the three-technique and kick inside to tackle.

That decision doesn’t have to be made today or even his freshman season, because today is a celebration for Jefferson who is signed and ready to help Jim McElwain turn Florida back into a winner.
