Warren Sapp was arrested for soliciting a prostitute this week, which has cost him his job at NFL Network and has caused Bud Light to stop airing his commercials.
Warren Sapp may have taken that “Up for Whatever” slogan a bit too far for Bud Light’s taste.
You may have seen those Bud Light ads that feature Sapp, in which he bursts into the home of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan dressed like a pirate — but you won’t anymore.
Sapp was arrested this week for soliciting a prostitute, and was subsequently fired from his job at the NFL Network. Now Bud Light has decided they don’t want him in their ads anymore, and will stop running the spot.
The ad has not only been taken off the air, but all YouTube uploads of the spot have been shut down.
In the ad, a Bucs fan is rewarded for being spotted holding Bud Light by having his living room turned into a Bucs shrine and having a pirate ship put in his backyard. He clearly wasn’t consulted on the matter, and if he has a wife, this is probably her worst nightmare. Then Warren Sapp comes in, dressed like a pirate with a parrot on his shoulder, the guy looks like he doesn’t know who Warren Sapp is, he fires a cannon, that’s pretty much it.
This is not Sapp’s first brush with the law; in 2010, he was charged with domestic battery and NFL Network canceled his appearance on their show, but the charges were later dropped. He was also known for frequent unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during his playing career.
Sapp, a defensive tackle, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He retired with 96.5 sacks, seven Pro Bowl appearances, and one Defensive Player of the Year award in his 13 seasons with Tampa Bay and Oakland. He was a key figure in the 2002 Super Bowl winning Buccaneers team, which was known for its all-time great defense.
