Here are my FanDuel lineups for February 6:
Point Guards:
Bargains:
Elfrid Payton, Magic ($5,700): Payton was back on track on Wednesday against the Spurs. He put up 35.7 fantasy points in 40 minutes. He had played only 41 minutes in the previous two games combined while nursing a sore knee. That seems to be behind him now, and he is a great value play against the Lakers. He could get close to 7x value if this doesnāt turn into a blowout.
D.J. Augustin, Pistons ($7,200): Augustin is becoming one of those guys that you only use when the matchup is right. He put up huge numbers against Toronto, Miami, and Houston, but struggled against Miami and Philadelphia. Tonight the matchup is right. He gets the Nuggets, who have been quite the mess lately. I wouldnāt expect another 45+ fantasy point outing from him like he did against Toronto, Miami, and Houston, but I could see him being in the 30ās. That makes him worth the price.
Worth The Cost:
Michael Carter-Williams, 76ers ($8,500): MCW went wild on Denver on Tuesday, scoring 44.6 fantasy points in 34 minutes. Expect about the game output tonight against the Celtics. Marcus Smart has improved his game by leaps and bounds, but he is by no means an elite defender. At least not yet. MCW wasĀ a terror for opposing teams when Tony Wroten missed time earlier this year. He should step right back into that role with Wroten done for the year. UPDATE: MCW is questionable. Check back before tipoff!
Brandon Knight, Bucks ($7,900): Knight racked up 44.4 fantasy points against the Lakers in his first game back. His quad is fine, and he has another great matchup against Houston tonight. I would not be a bit surprised to see him with 40 fantasy points again.
Russell Westbrook, Thunder ($11,200): Westbrook will cost a pretty penny, but he does get to take on the same Pelicans team that he torched for 59.2 fantasy points on Wednesday. Westbrook has 126.4 fantasy points in his last two games. He may even be a bargain at this price. He is producing 5x value at the second highest price in the game!
Risky Plays:
Ricky Rubio, Timberwolves ($6,500): Rubio played very well in his second game back on Wednesday. He scored 25.1 fantasy points in 23 minutes. His minutes will keep increasing little by little, but donāt expect his production to tonight. He has a very tough matchup against Memphis tonight. With so many other options available, you donāt need to gamble on Rubio tonight.
Langston Galloway, Knicks ($5,200): On the surface, Galloway still looks like a great value play. Iām not so sure that he is anymore. Galloway has averaged just 17 fantasy points per game in his last three games. With Jose Calderon healthy and Tim Hardaway Jr.ās play demanding him more court time, someone has to lose the minutes. It likely will be Galloway. He has still played 30 minutes in the last two games, but he is no longer producing at a high enough level to play him
My Lineups:
A: Westbrook and Payton ($16,900)
B:Ā Knight and AugustinĀ ($15,100)
Next: Should You Spend On Harden?
Nov 28, 2014; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan (10) against the Dallas Mavericks at Air Canada Centre. The Mavericks beat the Raptors 106-102. Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports
Shooting Guards:
Bargains:
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks ($6,400): Giannis is averaging 27.5 fantasy points per game over his last ten games. He has been over 35 in each of the last two games. He is playing at the level that he has shown he can right now. He also has a great matchup against the Rockets coming up tonight. He has a great chance to extend his streak of 35+ fantasy point games.
O.J. Mayo, Bucks ($5,100):Ā When he is firmly entrenched in the rotation, Mayo has proven that he can be a fantasy asset. He even scored 10.2 fantasy points in 11 minutes against the Raptors on Monday before being ejected. He has been close to a fantasy point per minute over his last dozen games. So long as he can stay on the court, he will produce for you.
Worth The Cost:
James Harden, Rockets ($10,800):Ā Harden has a great matchup against the Bucks tonight. We have all seen what he can do to weaker teams on the perimeter, He even put up games in the 40ās against Chicago, Detroit, and Dallas; teams that are decent on the perimeter. So long as this game doesnāt turn into a blowout, Harden is a great bet to end up over 50.
DeMar DeRozan, Raptors ($6,900):Ā The Clippers got torched by sharpshooter J.R. Smith on Wednesday. This should have people falling all over themselves trying to land DeRozan tonight. He is the sharpshooter for the Raptors, and will find plenty of shots with J.R. Redick likely out of the lineup again. Even if Redick plays, the Clippers have not defended the two well this year. DeRozan has been over 20 fantasy points in each of his last seven games, and has averaged 33.1 fantasy points per game over that span. There is a good chance that he helps the average tonight.
Risky Plays:
Avery Bradley, Celtics ($5,100):Ā Bradley has done very well as the starting SG in Boston. So why is he a risk tonight? Itās all about the matchup. Philadelphia has defended the perimeter rather well lately. On top of that, Bradley has been far from a consistent producer. He has played at least 30 minutes in each of his last nine games, but his fantasy output has fluctuated from 11 to 34.2 over that span. That is between 2 and 6.5x value. That is too risky for me, especially on a night when most of the league is in action.
Klay Thompson, Warriors ($7,800):Ā He is too reliant upon scoring to be a constant asset in daily leagues. Especially when his price gets up in this area. The Hawks defend the perimeter rather well, so I donāt really trust Thompson tonight. He has only been over 30 fantasy points once in his last four games, and that was against the Suns. Wait until he heats up again before playing him in daily leagues.
My Lineups:
A: Antetokounmpo and Mayo ($11,500)
B: DeRozan and Victor Oladipo ($13,800): Hey, Oladipo is playing that Lakers. Enough said.
Next: Can You Afford Two Of The Big Three?
Feb 3, 2015; New York, NY, USA; New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony (7) reacts against the Boston Celtics during the first quarter at Madison Square Garden. Mandatory Credit: Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports
Small Forwards:
Bargains:
Joe Ingles, Jazz ($4,100):Ā As I thought, Ingles was handcuffed by the Grizzlies. That game should be an aberration. He can follow up his worst game as a starter with possibly his best. Ingles gets the Suns tonight. We here at FantasyCPR have hammered home the tempo of the Suns and how great of a boon that is for fantasy players. It works for their opponents too. Ingles should be able to get back to well in the 20ās for fantasy points tonight. that makes him a sure thing for a 5x value and maybe more.
Robert Covington, 76ers ($6,300):Ā Covington has been on fire his last two games, putting up 74.2 fantasy games against Denver and Cleveland. Tonight he gets the Celtics who might be without Tayshaun Prince yet again. If they are, Covington has an even better matchup. I donāt really think it matters who guards him in Boston. The thing that has increased his fantasy output most recently his that he is finding other ways to stuff the stat sheet. He has been over 20 fantasy points in eight of his last nine games. The only exception was Memphis, and that is understandable.
Worth The Cost:
LeBron James, Cavaliers ($11,000):Ā The only thing to be aware of here is that the King has āonlyā averaged 41.5 fantasy points per game since missing a game with a wrist injury. It is possible that the wrist is not entirely healed. That said, he put up 40.1 fantasy points last night in just 28 minutes against the Clippers. He should have another good game against the Pacers tonight. They donāt really have the size at the three to throw James off of his game.
Carmelo Anthony, Knicks ($9,400):Ā Melo will likely sit out tomorrow, so play him while you can! His matchup against the Nets is a pretty good one too. His knee does not seem to be bothering him much, if at all. The Knicks have been off since Tuesday, so Anthony should be well rested and ready to get you at least 40 fantasy points tonight.
Risky Plays:
Kevin Durant, Thunder ($10,700):Ā Durant was upgraded to probable after the shootaround this morning, and is expected to start tonight against the Pelicans. This looks like a really good matchup, as the Pelicans wont have Anthony Davis or Eric Gordon chase him around. Tyreke Evans is still playing point, so that leaves Dante Cunningham to deal with the MVP. The only thing that worries me is that he has only played one game since his toe started bugging him back on January 26th, and he put up only 27.4 fantasy points in 37 minutes against Memphis. But if you feel like rolling the dice a little, Durant could be a nice play tonight.
Gordon Hayward, Jazz ($8,100):Ā Hayward still keeps putting up games in the 20ās. He has not been under that mark in 2015. But if his price is this high, you need him at least in the 30ās. That makes him a play only for good matchups. Tonight he gets the Suns, which should be a good matchup for him. If you look at the games where he has not hit 30 in the last ten (Memphis, Clippers, Spurs, and Cavs), all of those teams defend well. The teams that he lit up (Lakers, Celtics, Bucks, and Trailblazers without Nicolas Batum), they donāt defend well. You should see Hayward in at least the mid-30ās tonight.
My Lineups:
A: Covington and Khris Middleton ($12,700): Middleton has been a very reliable option at SF.
B: Hayward and Ingles ($12,200)
Next: Do You Need To Spend Big At PF?
Jan 27, 2015; Auburn Hills, MI, USA; Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe (10) takes a shot over Cleveland Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov (20) and guard Shawn Marion (31) during the third quarter at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Cavs beat the Pistons 103-95. Mandatory Credit: Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
Power Forwards:
Bargains:
Greg Monroe, Pistons ($8,200):Ā Yes, that is a bargain tonight. There are a lot of high-priced options at PF. Monroe has a great matchup against Denver, who has been brutalized up front by teams with size. Detroit might be the biggest team in the league up front. Monroe has only had two games under 30 fantasy points since the beginning of January. He could produce as much as some of the higher priced options at PF tonight against the Nuggets.
Donatas Motiejunas, Rockets ($5,800):Ā Motiejunas just keeps racking up games of more than 20 fantasy points. With Dwight Howard out, there are plenty of minutes to go around in the Houston frontcourt. Motiejunas is a lock for 30 minutes a night, and has only been under 20 fantasy points once in 2015. He has a good matchup against Milwaukee, who are still beat up in the frontcourt. The Bucks have been going with Jared Dudley at PF. That looks really good for Motiejunasās chances tonight.
Worth The Cost:
Zach Randolph, Grizzlies ($8,700): Randolph just keeps right on posting fantasy points in the 30ās. 16 straight games to be exact. Now he gets to take on the Timberwolves, who despite returning to health, are still not that great defensively on the interior. Randolph will eat Gorgui Dieng and Thad Young alive. I expect him to be well above 30 in this one as well, likely into the 40ās.
Blake Griffin, Clippers ($9,600):Ā Griffin has a great matchup against the undersized Raptors tonight. He has been over 30 fantasy points in each of his last 12 games, and over 40 in eight of those. His track record combined with the opponent makes him a strong play tonight.
Risky Plays:
Anthony Davis, Pelicans ($11,400):Ā Serge Ibaka did a great job on Davis on Wednesday, holding him to āonlyā 23 points and eight rebounds. That left his fantasy output at 39.6. that is a great night for most people, but it is only a 3.5x value for the highest priced player in FanDuel. You need more than that from Davis to make him worth his cost. It likely wonāt happen against Ibaka and the Thunder.
Paul Millsap, Hawks ($8,000):Ā His matchup against the Warriors looks pretty good on paper, but Millsap has been under 30 fantasy points in each of his last three games. You can understand it against the Wizards and Pelicans, but against Philly? Golden State will throw Draymond Green, David Lee, and Marreese Speights at him all night. There was a time where I would have said 5x value is likely tonight, but I doubt it is. 4x is attainable though, which probably makes him worth the risk despite his recent dip in production.
My Lineups:
A: John Henson and Ed Davis ($10,400) Injuries have thrust both of these backups into starting roles. They played well in in their first games, so Iām rolling with them.
B: Randolph and Motiejunas ($14,500)
Next: Where Do You Go Without Whiteside?
January 11, 2015; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside (21) dunks to score a basket against the Los Angeles Clippers during the first half at Staples Center. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports
Center:
Bargains:
Roy Hibbert, Pacers ($6,100): Hibbert is back to playing more minutes, and his stats have picked up as well. He has averaged 29.8 fantasy points per game over his last five games. Tonight he gets a really good matchup against Timofey Mozgov and the Cavaliers. He did a great job against Andre Drummond on Wednesday, racking up 38.9 fantasy points. If he sees 36 minutes again, there is a good chance that he can do that against the Cavs as well.
Al Horford, Hawks ($8,400): Horford could be a bargain at this price against the Warriors. They are rolling with Andrew Bogut at center. Horford could have a monster night against Bogut. He has been over 40 fantasy points in three of his last four games, and has been over 30 in each of his last 12 games. Horford has a legitimate shot at 5x value tonight.
Worth The Cost:
Nikola Vucevic, Magic ($8,900): Vucevic is taking on a Lakers team that is thin inside even with Jordan Hill. Hill is doubtful to take the court tonight, so Vucevic isĀ a likely option to have a big night. With Hassan Whiteside doubtful, a lot of us will be scrambling for a replacement. Vucevic could come close to what Whiteside has been doing lately against the Lakers.
Andre Drummond, Pistons ($8,400): While Drummond has battled inconsistency most of the year, he has been on a tear over his last three games. He has averaged 38 fantasy points per game over that period. He has a great matchup tonight against the Nuggets, who are still going with a combination of Jusuf Nurkic, Javale McGee, and J.J. Hickson at center. McGee is the only one that might be able to keep him from going nuts, but I doubt it. Drummond is likely the best option if Whiteside sits.
Risky Plays:
Hassan Whiteside, Heat ($8,000): Whitesideās price has finally increased to the point that he carries a little bit of risk with him, but not much. He still has been at or above 32 fantasy points in every game since his return on January 25th. That give him 4x value at minimum. He has also been above 45 three times in those six games and above 50 twice. If he can do that again, he is looking a 6x value. That is a distinct possibility against the Spurs. **UPDATE** Whiteside is doubtful against the Spurs! The problem this poses is that this game does not tip until 9:30 eastern, meaning the all day tournament will be well underway before we get confirmation on his status.
Steven Adams, Thunder ($4,400): Adams put up 24 fantasy points against this same Pelicans team on Wednesday. If you need to go cheap at center, Adams is easily the best option. He has averaged 20.2 fantasy points per game over his last ten games. That is nearly 5x value!
My Lineups:
A: Drummond ($8,400)
B: Adams ($4,400)
