Cleveland Browns ESPN reporter Tony Grossi called for the team to trade quarterback Johnny Manziel this coming offseason.
Johnny Manziel was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and the Cleveland Browns were hoping that he could be their future at the quarterback position. He didn’t have a good first season at all, and his future with the Browns is very much in doubt after the disappointing two starts that he had late in the year.

That disappointment has led ESPN Browns reporter Tony Grossi to call for the team to trade Manziel this coming offseason.
During the 2014 season, Manziel threw for just 175 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. He did run in a touchdown from 10 yards out against the Buffalo Bills in a relief role behind Brian Hoyer. Those numbers aren’t going to cut it in two starts from any quarterback, especially a player that has been as hyped up as Manziel.
Manziel’s biggest issue has been his party life off-the-field. He missed a practice late in the season due to a party the night before, and entered into rehab following the season. It made his future even more bleak, and the Browns have already been searching for other quarterback options.
Grossi mentioned the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot for Manziel, and it would make a lot of sense. Jerry Jones was rumored to ant Manziel in the draft, but chose to go a different direction. Getting a chance to acquire Manziel for a late-round draft pick might be too difficult for Jones to pass up.
At just 22 years of age, there is still plenty of time for Manziel to get things figured out and revive his career. Every single rookie has trouble adjusting to the speed and physicality of the NFL, and it might be a bit too early for the Browns to give up on Manziel. They gave up a good amount of value to draft Manziel in the first place, so sending him to another team for a late-round pick doesn’t make sense just yet.
There are still major concerns surrounding him, but giving him one more year isn’t going to hurt anything. The worst that could happen is the Browns sit him on the bench if he starts slow and then they could get rid of him next offseason.
Either way, the Browns and their fans are already getting sick of the Manziel drama. If he can turn things around in 2015 with the team, he could save his career and avoid getting traded or cut. Trading him right now probably isn’t going to happen, and the Browns will likely give him one more season to prove himself before making a move.
