Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula gave out a statement on why he signed guard Richie Incognito.

It’s not exactly an easy thing to explain.

The Buffalo Bills recently signed guard Richie Incognito to a one-year, $2.25 million contract after meeting with the team over the weekend. The Bills desperately need help on the offensive line, but Incognito may not be the kind of help that Bills fans want.

Incognito is known for being a hot-head and making a lot of poor choices off the football field. Incognito hasn’t played since 2013 with the Miami Dolphins. He sat out this entire year because no team wanted to take a chance on him.

However, it seems Bills owner Terry Pegula is willing to take a chance on him. After meeting with Incognito this weekend and signing him to an NFL contract, Pegula released a statement on Incognito.

It seems that Pegula is trying to assure the Bills’ fan base that he has given it a lot of thought and he feels confident in the decision to sign Incognito. I’m sure there are a lot of Bills fans who are not too crazy about the idea.

Incognito is known for being a fiery competitor on the football field, but he often lets it get the better of him. During his time with the Dolphins, he was involved in harassing fellow teammate Jonathan Martin to the point where Martin was forced to get team officials involved and, eventually, an investigation by the NFL into the situation. Martin was later traded to the San Francisco 49ers, and Incognito was suspended for the rest of the 2013 season.

It’s not only off the field. Incognito will sometimes let his emotions get the better of him on the field as well. Several players have come out and said how dirty of a player Incognito is. Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus once called Incognito ‘the dirtiest player in the league.’

It will not be easy for Incognito to erase his bad reputation that he’s built up over his NFL career, but the Bills are giving him a chance to do so.

Richie would be wise to take advantage of this opportunity he’s being given. The Bills seem like the only team that were willing to take a chance on him. This may be his last opportunity to play in the NFL. If he ends up still being a head case this season and gets himself in trouble, there definitely won’t be another team willing to take a chance on him.
