Michigan student organization is trying to add a new fight song
Michigan University’s Central Student Organization (CSG) is hearing a pitch for a new spirit song to go alongside its iconic fight song “The Victors” at sporting events
Michigan’s famous fight song, “The Victors” may have a new rival if the Central Student Organization approves funding for a project headed by two students.
Adam Weiss, a sophomore and the representative on the student organization, and Mike Weinberg, a senior at Michigan are asking for funding from the CSG in order to create their final product: a new Michigan fight song.
If the project gets funding from the student organization, the next step would be to recruit musicians and artists who have ties to the school to make an “extremely unique” final song. An interesting concept, especially at a school where the fight song is so recognizable.
“The Victors” as the number one fight song in college athletics. The song dates back to 1898, after a Michigan football team finished out the school’s first undefeated season against Chicago, 12-11. The song’s history is as rich as the Michigan fan base. So if these young students plan on competing with it, they better be putting forth quality work.

According to the Michigan Daily, Weiss and Weinberg have acquired rapper and producer, David Banner to produce the song after its completion. All they need now is a little help financially from the student organization to get their project off the ground.
There are also rumors of getting Eminem involved with the creation of the new fight song. Eminem, a Detroit native, spent time in the Michigan booth during a football game back in 2013.
The reaction from the Michigan faithful to this new spirit song will be interesting. Michigan fans are notorious for standing by their beloved fight song and belting it out during Michigan home games. But if names as prestigious as David Banner and Eminem are involved, maybe this project has something to it.
